VINYL FATIGUE SUSTAINS SEMI-PERMANENT MEMORY......... FOR MANY, 'THE' ALBUM WOULD HAVE BEEN BOBBY DARIN'S 1958 'SPLISH-SPLASH' OR TITO PUENTE'S 'LIVING STEREO" ALBUMS WITH 'PING-PONG' PERCUSSION.......RHYTHMIC MUSIC GETS 'PLAYED MOST'......ALTHOUGH WE CITY FOLKS HAVE INTELLECTUALIZED THOSE PRIMITIVE, TRIBAL DRUMBEATS......
I was recently measuring the 'stretch' of the spiraling pre-1964 vinyl grooves of my favorite couple of hundred LPs.....with my handy micrometer...Only a costly Ortofon or Shure elliptical, type IV phono cartridge with a fresh diamond stylus can endure the jagged paths left by so many trecks by old, conical cartridges, weighed down with taped-on dimes...to keep them 'in the air-dusted and denatured alcohol-wiped grooves'......
