STANLEY KUBRICK......MASTER OF 'THE DETAILS'

IN THE 1980 KUBRICK FILM, 'THE SHINING" , JACK NICHOLSON'S CHARACTER, JACK TORRENCE,   TAKES HIS SON, DANNY, THROUGH A COMPLEX GREEN TOPIARY MAZE......NOTE THE MAZE-LIKE DESIGN OF JACK'S SHIRT....AND JACKET....AS WELL AS THE 'GREEN HEDGE MAZE' TIE THAT HE IS WEARING.........

SILVER 'ANTLER' HANDLES OF THE 1889 WILLIAM ROGERS CUTLERY SET BY NORWICH CUTLERY (1889-1938)

  .Although I have a collection of deer and elk antler handled carving implements....I'd never seen a set (knife, fork and sharpening tool) with sterling silver handles that resembled antlers......This knife, from the set, is as razor-sharp as it was when it was first made, in 1889.......

ANOTHER OBLIQUE OBSERVATION FROM MEMORY AND PRESENT CURIOSITY

by happenstance, I found some info about this small Zaalberg 'cabinet' vase: (Familiebedrijf: 1918-1937 H. Zaalberg Sr., 1937-1962, M.H. Zaalberg, 1962 H. Zaalberg Jr. Eerst onder de naam Pottenbakkerij De Rijn, Vanaf 1942 tot heden wordt uitsluitend de Zaalberg merkstempels gebruikt.) ....in Dutch, of course, which I cannot comprehend....... the vase was made by Meindert Zaalberg ...during my visit to Holland and the "Artist Colony" near Soest.... My memory circuits required a massive amount of koffie to dislodge this relatively unimportant information... Then, from another 'memory cell' of my brain.......I remembered my trip to Soest, Holland....to visit my then-pregnant friend, Cheryl Lowe Ransijn.....who was driving a couple of times a week to take piano and Dutch Language lessons from her tutor, Ma Fra Tenkate ( spelling as I remember the sound of her name ), who also directed, in her multi-lingual home, a Colony of young Artistes who lived under ...
